Margaret River: wine, food & beach

Yesterday my boyfriend took me and a friend of ours on a wine tour.

There are so many wineries around Margaret River, so a lot of great wine to discover.

We started at Xanadu, an estate with a really nice look. The wine was of very high quality.
Our favourites were definitely the Semillon, the rosé, and the Cabernet Sauvignon (reserve). The estate produces a wide range of wines, so everybody will definitely find something they like here. Me personally, I am not a big fan of sweet wines, but it is certainly worth a try. They are really good. The cellar door staff can give you great ideas for food pairing and they are a good laugh.
Of course we walked out with a few bottles.

Next stop was Stella Bella. This winery has a small cellar door with well-trained staff. The Wines from this winery are easy drinking and good price-quality. The Chardonnay and the Sangiovese-Cabernet Sauvignon are my personal favourites from Stella Bella. If you like a nice oaky Chardonnay, you will like this one. Also try the Sauvignon Nuovo, a sweeter and lightly spritzy wine. It is a new experience for your palate.
Good thing about Stella Bella is that they have a cheaper range of wines. These are easy drinking for like a nice evening with friends. Something really stupid maybe, but I like the Stella Bella labels, they make me happy.

We continued our way down the road and ended up at Firetail. I had never heard of the winery before, but it is the bomb! I literally liked all of their wines. It is a very small place and the owner runs the cellar door. Great man with amazing stories to tell and a big fluffy dog! If you are searching for great now drinking wine for a low price, this is your place to be. Try the different vintages of the Cabernet Sauvignon, they are all amazing but the 2012 is my favorite. The rosé is fantastic and the sparkling Chardonnay is yummy. Definitely a winery that I would put on top of the list if I would show people around.

The endpoint of our little wine tour was the Berry Farm. The products are all made of their own grown berries and the food from the cottage is great. The sharing platter is perfect to have for lunch. You pick your table in the garden and you order your food at the counter. Outside is a beautiful garden area where the blue wrens just sit down next to you on the table. Beautiful birds and flowers surround you and everybody is happy. So this is a good recommendation for a casual lunch after tasting a lot of wine.

After all of this goodness we needed a swim, so we headed to the beach. This was the start of a great night playing ‘Cards Against Humanity’. If you have not heard about it: GOOGLE IT! Best game ever!

So this is it for the first wine tour report. Next Wednesday we go on a Bushtucker wine tour so we can get drunk without worrying about who is driving.

See you next week!
